The acronym PCS, or Provincial Civil Service, is frequently used. It is an administrative civil service that falls under Group A of the state’s executive arm of government. It is often referred to as the state’s feeder service for the Indian Administrative Service.
PCS officials are frequently appointed as additional divisional commissioners by the state while looking at the divisional level. The Additional Commissioner (Development), Additional Commissioner (Revenue), and Additional Commissioner (Executive) levels are the most prevalent of these positions, which are typically found in two to three divisions.

IAS and PCS officers sometimes mistakenly assume that their responsibilities are similar when, in reality, they are different. Although they are employed by the state government and President, whose cadre is assigned to them according to the circumstances, IAS officers are appointed by the President of India. Since the state governor directly appoints the PCS officers, they have full authority over the state government. Since an IAS officer is deputed to oversee operations across India but a PCS officer is posted within his specific state cadre to oversee his state, the compensation, duties, and capabilities of an IAS officer in the case carry more weight than a PCS officer.
